Apalachicola means 'Land of the Friendly People,' and it has been attracting modern-day settlers since the 1830s, with many fine old stately antebellum homes nestled amid cascading magnolias. A scenic walking tour of the town reveals much of the history that made it, including the cotton warehouses that once bustled during the 1800s. Situated in Franklin County, this part of the state boasts some of the most well-preserved natural resources in Florida, with many protected shallow bays.

Apalachicola is a good central location from which to branch out to neighboring St George Island, a barrier island some 28 miles long with a beautiful State Park and magnificent beaches. Eastpoint is a truly authentic old-world fishing town, with a bustling array o

f fishing boats and bayside eateries where you can sample their super-fresh seafood.

Scuba diving and snorkeling on nearby reefs and fresh and

saltwater fishing are just some of the options available. The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve is well worth a visit, as well as the Maritime Museum, where you can purchase tickets to sail into the evening aboard the historic sailing schooner, the Governor Stone. Whatever your choice of activity, this is a place where seafood lovers will revel in the freshest oysters, crabs and fish, something this area is justly famous for.
