ALIEN INVASION OR HOMETOWN HOAX?
Mainstream national media, the tabloid press, and various local, state, and national investigators for UFO groups descended on Gulf Breeze in the months that followed. Among them was Walter Andrus, state director for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). After three years of study he concluded,"The overwhelming evidence is in. Gulf Breeze is indeed one of the most incredible cases in modern UFO history." Critics answered that the whole thing was just a clever deception using double-exposures and a homemade miniature model.

Some years after Walters sold his home, reports surfaced -- and were quickly disputed by others -- that the new owner had found a miniature model of the "space craft" in a forgotten cubbyhole of the old house. A teen-aged neighbor confessed that he'd helped Walters photograph it. When other investigators sought the boy out for more details they learned he'd gone away to college.

GULF BREEZE -- CALL HOME!
Nevertheless, over the ensuing years additional reports of UFO sightings by residents and visitors to the area continued pouring in. They were so numerous and sufficiently credible that today Gulf Breeze is known unofficially as "the UFO capital of the world." The city has been featured in numerous television programs, documentaries, and docu-dramas. Almost invariably, whenever UFOs are discussed the Gulf Breeze sightings are cited as among the most convincing.

To this day, members of the local chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) meet at least once a month in Shoreline Park to gaze skyward with anticipation and awe. And almost weekly some resident or tourist announces that they, too, have seen strangely lit "chevron-shaped" objects in the night sky, or large shiny discs with panels of lights revolving on the underside, or odd lights darting back and forth in the sky at impossible speeds. On at least one occasion, it is claimed the Navy was sufficiently concerned to scramble six search-and-rescue helicopters for a closer look.

ANNUAL UFO CONFERENCE Six years ago Gulf Breeze became home to an annual UFO conference sponsored by "Project Awareness." It is one of the best attended, and for its type highly praised, conferences in the country. If you like the "X-Files,"

you'll love the Annual Gulf Breeze UFO Conference. This year's get together was held March 20-22 at the Beachside Resort in nearby Pensacola Beach. Among the featured speakers were such UFO luminaries as Dr. Scott Mandelker ("ET Souls on Earth"), Jamie Maussaun ("The Mexican UFOs: The Most Astounding UFO Videos in History"), and Linda Moulton Howe ("Military Voices: U.S. Government Knowledge and Cover-up About Non-Human Entities"). Well over 600 attended.

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW
According to Prof. David Jacobs, ("The Aliens' Secret Program"),
Mexico's answer to Geraldo,as many as five million Americans claim to have been abducted by aliens. "That is a very conservative figure," he adds. "In fact, the vast majority are not even aware they were abducted."
So how will you know if you've been abducted?
Classic symptoms, according to Jacobs, include a sensation of "missing time," flash-backs to alien scenes, "anomalous scars that suddenly appear" on one's body, or "a psychogenic frozen state lasting up to five days Ð unless there's something medically wrong."
How do you spot an alien before he spots you?
Jacobs and noted UFO expert Budd Hopkins agree that the average alien falls into one of four known types: (1) the usual "gray urchin;" (2) a more "insect-like" creature; (3) "a more reptilian-like" creature; and (4) "Nordics," also known in the trade as "adult hybrids."

When a middle aged couple approached Prof. Jacobs after his lecture to have him personally inscribe his latest book, the wife anxiously asked how she could cope with so many species of aliens running around. "Forget them as much as you can," he advised. "Have fun. Live life to the fullest. Love your family. It's not good to think about aliens all the time. It won't do you any good.

There's not much we can do about them, anyway." Pretty good, down-to-earth advice.
