Where the Courts Are Florida is world-famous for its beautiful winter weather, making it an ideal location for tennis buffs. During the summer months things heat up considerably, but this doesn't seem to deter thousands of people from hitting the hundreds of hard, har-tru, clay and even grass courts dotted around the state. Many top professionals, including Pete Sampras, Monica Seles and The Williams Sisters have homes in Florida, and there are some world-class, even world-beating tennis academies, such as Nick Bolletieri's in Bradenton, which has become the epicenter of the US tennis world. When hitting the courts, always remember to bring along plenty of fluids, wear a strong sunblock (SPF 25 or higher) and a hat. You may find the early morning, sunset or evening hours cooler and preferable. The interactive map at the right contains links to a complete directory of all USTA Florida tennis member courts in the state, from elegant resorts to serious tennis camps to municipal courts. It is suggested that you call first for availability, hours and rates. |
