Like many Florida vacation destinations, the Daytona Beach area is comprised of a number of cities and communities. From Ormond By -The- Sea, the northernmost town, to Ponce Inlet in the south, the Intracoastal Waterway runs throughout, touching each area. The Daytona Beach area is partly situated on a peninsula, separated from the mainland by the waterway. Home to the famous NASCAR race that takes place each year, the Daytona 500, there are also many other local attractions that are well worth visiting. Although the wide stretch of white sandy beach is the biggest draw, Adventure Landing, a water-themed park is a big hit with kids of all ages, as well as Daytona USA, a race car fan's dream. Down south at Ponce Inlet is a fine example of a Florida fishing village, with superb seafood and ample fishing opportunities.You can climb the 203 steps to the top of the lighthouse for a terrific view of the surrounding scenery. There are several guided boat tours, including a canoe trip into the beautiful surrounding waterways. Of course, there's jetskiing, parasailing, windsurfing and boat rentals if you want to get out on the water. There are more than 2 dozen golf courses, many world class. Daytona USA is billed as the ultimate motorsports attraction, and it's easy to see why. Offering a hands-on, high tech approach to its presentation- you can change tires in a timed pit-stop competition, design and video-test your own racecar-no racing fan will be disappointed. The Klassix Auto Attraction offers a superb collection of vintage cars, while the Richard Petty Driving Experience Ride-along program lets you ride in a NASCAR round the Speedway at over 100 mph. At Speed Park Motorsports there are superb Go-Kart tracks and drag racing opportunities. Downtown Daytona Beach located along Beach Street offers four blocks of quaint shops along a palm tree-lined avenue. Perfect for strolling, there are boutiques of all kinds, from jewelry stores to magic. Surrounding Daytona there are many State Parks and recreation areas.
