History
Seat
of Walton County,De Funiak Springs was named in 1881 for a prominent official
of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. It is a picturesque town with
many historic homes. It is also a terrific central location from which
to venture forth and take in surrounding attractions in this quiet and
rural corner of Florida.
The pristine sandy-white beaches of the Gulf of Mexico are only 30 miles
away, while Ponce De Leon State Park is also close by. The famous town
of Seaside, featured as a location
for the recent movie "The Truman Show" is a fun place with neo-retro
cottages set on sandy lanes with cute restaurants and shops.
There are ample opportunities for freshwater and seawater fishing as well
as other watersports. Golf and tennis opportunities are also plentiful.
A nearby vineyard, Chautauqua, offers free tastings and tours daily, and
the Eden State Gardens and Mansion dating from 1897, which is in nearby
Point Washington, is well worth a visit..
